I can see where you would expect a decline from Pineiro.. But when you figure he is our 5th starter I think that puts us ahead of a lot of teams. Lets say he has a 4.07 Era and he wins 12 games is that bad for a 5th starter?? You are right he does not strike a lot of batters out but his command could be an equalizer. I have to think Scioscia can help him in some way also. I could be wrong, I hope not but every year I've been thinking we should have done more in free agency and they prove me wrong. So this year I'm going the other way...

Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of things that point to Pineiro not repeating what he did last season. He got a lot of ground ball outs, yet, but he also had very few strikeouts, and if you look at most of his 2009 peripherals (BABAIP, BAA, HR/9, BB/9, HR/FB, GB%, etc.) and compare them to anything he's done since 2004, it looks like you're talking about two completely different pitchers. I don't know many people that have completely changed their numbers like that in their 10th big league season, and sustained that change.

As for the offense... I don't know. I'm not optimistic, but I could be wrong. I'll happily eat my words if he does it, but it's hard for me to imagine Torii Hunter repeating a career season at this age. Kendry Morales also repeating, or improving upon numbers he didn't even put in the minors would shock me as well. Offense has been a problem for this team for years now, and one that the front office continues to not address directly outside of the Teixeira trade, and coming off of career years for a number of guys, it's hard for me to imagine it's not going to be a bigger problem for us this year than it was last.

Mostly though, I just hope you're right. I fear I am, though.

Lackey won't be as dominate as he once was... I like Pineiro he get a lot of ground ball outs and his run support last year was terrible. I think he is a steal for a 5th starter!! I starting pitching won't be our problem the Halos need to start strong this year and be a productive lineup from top to bottom. If this team can score runs ( which they should be able to do) I don't see why they don't win the West again... I do agree the bullpen could be a circus all year but I think we will be active come trade deadline. I think we win 87-92 games this year and capture another crown...
