The Angels took another step forward in proving what most of us have known all along. They are not a playoff team. The Angels dropped to five games behind first-place Texas in the American League West race with nine games to play, and they fell 4.5 games behind Boston in their mythical wild-card chase.
Toronto got the walk off 3-2 win in the bottom of the 10th inning on a Adam Lind ground ball that Torii Hunter (playing the 5th infielder role with the bases loaded) fielded but threw off line to home plate. The winning run was setup by a lead off error by short stop Erick Aybar and then a failure to turn a double play by Izturis and Kendrick. The blunders started in the top of the 10th when the Halos failed to cash in a rare lead off double by Vernon Wells.
The only thing left for the Angels to play for is seeing if they can some how makeup two games between now and September 26th ( when Texas travels to the Big A for a three game series) to make the series with the Rangers somewhat meaningful. The Halos will set out on that quest tonight with (gasp) Joel Pineiro on the mound against Brett Cecil.
