What promises to be an eventful off season for the Angels got off to a Blockbuster start. The Angels announced Friday that Tony Reagins is out as General Manager. The team issued the following statement:
September 30, 2011 – The Los Angeles Angels Friday announced that General Manager Tony Reagins has resigned from his current role with the organization and will remain with the ballclub as a special assistant to Club Chairman Dennis Kuhl. The move is effective immediately.
“Though we finished 2011 with a winning record, we remained short of our objective in winning a championship,” said Angels Owner Arte Moreno. “In moving forward, we felt a change was needed.”
“Throughout his career, Tony has meant a great deal to this organization, and represented the Angels with the utmost loyalty and dedication. He will always remain part of the Angels family,” added Moreno.
One whipping boy down (Reagins) one to go (Mathis). The search for the next Angels GM begins today. One potential candidate?
- Eddie Bane – What better way to repair the relationship with the Angels former head of scouting (now with Detroit) who was only let go because of clashes with Reagins. Bane is a superb talent evaluator and for my money that is the most important skill set for any GM.
