The Angels will head into this weekend’s Texas series losers of four of five as the they lost the finale of their series with the Tigers 5-1. Max Scherzer shut down the Tigers giving up only three hits and striking out nine over seven.
The Tigers got started when Jhonny Peralta drove in Prince Fielder with a double and Alex Avila followed it with a two run homer; his sixth of the year. The Tigers added to their lead when Danny Worth drove in Peralta with a double in the fourth. Miguel Cabera capped off the Tigers scoring hitting his 21st home run of the year. The Angels lone run came in the sixth, when who else, Mike Trout hit his 14th home run of the year.
It was a good sign for the bullpen, who pitched two innings and combined to only give up a walk. You want your team clicking on all cylinders when facing your division rivals. What wasn’t a good sign was Jerome Williams, who struggled yet again giving up five runs ins six innings. It re-affirms the need to go out and acquire a starting pitcher, whether it be a Cole Hamels type, or another starter.
