Halo Highlights- Greinke Outduels Parker as Angels Cut A's Wild Card Lead

It’s great when pitchers’ duel come to fruition. That’s the way the game was last night. Zack Greinke and Jarrod Parker lived up to the billing, but the Angels bullpen outpitched Oakland’s as they tacked on two runs in the eighth and ninth innings and got the win 6-1.

The Angels broke a scoreless tie in the fifth when Alberto Callaspo and Chris Iannetta singled and Mike Trout drove in Callaspo with a single. In the sixth the Angels played small ball. Kendrys Morales and Howard Kendrick singled. Erick Aybar bunted them to up a base and Callaspo drove in Morales with a sac fly.

The A’s scored their run in the seventh when Brandon Moss hit his 16th homer of the year. The Angels came back in the eighth. Albert Pujols singled but was erased on Kendrick’s groundout. Kendrick stole second and scored on Aybar’s double. Callaspo brought him in with a single. The Angels tacked on two in the ninth. Chris Iannetta walked and stole second. Torii Hunter walked and Morales doubled everyone in.

The Angels are looking for the all important sweep when Dan Haren and Brandon McCarthy duel at 12:35PT/3:35ET. The Angels can cut Oakland’s lead to 2.5 games for a Wild Card spot.
