Well, the Angels did what they could to stay in the race, however, with Oakland’s win, the Angels were officially eliminated from playoff contention even though they beat Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners 8-4.
Mike Trout led off with a double and two batters later Albert Pujols drove him home with a double of his own. Two batters later, Alberto Callaspo walked. Mark Trumbo and Howard Kendrick followed with RBI singles. The Mariners got one of those runs back in the bottom half when Casper Wells hit his ninth homer of the year.
In the fourth, Maicer Izturis singled, Chris Iannetta walked and Trout drove in Izturis with a single. In the sixth, Kendrick and Iztruis singled. Trout tripled both in and Torii Hunter drove in Trout with a single.
The Mariners tried to mount a comeback in the seventh. Casper Wells doubled and Jesus Montero singled. Justin Smoak brought in Wells and Kendrick’s error on Miguel Olivo‘s ball lead to another run. Travon Robinson followed that with an RBI single.
The Angels tacked on a run on Kendrick’s RBI double in the ninth inning.
C.J. Wilson ended his year on a positive note giving up two earned in 6.1 innings. The walks were still too high, as he walked five, however, he did strike out seven.
