We’re getting closer and closer to Spring Training games that people will begin to overreact about. Let’s take a look at some of the news and notes from rainy Arizona. (At least they aren’t where it’s snowing)
Madson Plays Catch: Ryan Madson played catch from 50 feet. While this doesn’t seem like a huge deal, it was the first time he had thrown since February 1. He has yet to long toss which is important. Once he does that, if he does it with no pain, then he can progress back to the mound. Don’t be shocked when he starts the year on the DL.
Kobayashi Could Catch On: He may have not been the original target from Japan the Angels wanted this off-season, however, Hiroyuki Kobayashi. Kobayashi throws a slider, a splitter and a forkball. Kobayashi was a fan of the Angels because of Hideki Matsui. He could make a surprise appearance in the bullpen for the Angels this year.
Calhoun Trying To Stick: Kole Calhoun is trying to stick on the Angels roster. He’s got some competition as the lefty off the bench with Scott Cousins and other outfielders brought in on minor league deals like J.B. Shock and Trent Oletjen. As I said all off-season, due to the fact he’s barely played above single-A, he should be playing everyday in AAA until they need an extra outfielder.
Angels Toy Drive: The Angels had their annual spring toy drive, spearheaded by Mike Trout. They spent over $5,000 in donations.
