Jerome Williams locked horns with former Cy Young Award winner David Price and came away victorious as the Angels beat the Rays 6-2. Williams had a very solid performance, rebounding nicely after a shaky start to earn his 6th win of the season, throwing 102 pitches, 66 for strikes, and giving up only two runs while striking out seven, walking two, and giving up six hits.
The Rays quickly answered back in the top of the third with two runs of their own thanks to James Loney‘s double off the wall in right field, scoring David DeJesus and Ben Zobrist. Williams was able to stop the bleeding though getting Will Meyers to ground out to second to end the Rays rally.
In the bottom half of the third, Mark Trumbo doubled on a fly ball to left, Josh Hamilton singled on a sharp ground ball to center to score Trumbo, Luis Jimenez doubled on a fly ball to center sending Hamilton to 3rd, Kole Calhoun singled home Hamilton and Grant Green beats out a potential double play scoring Jimenez from third on a fielder’s choice. And BOOM, Angels lead 6-2 after three innings.
That would be it for the scoring as Williams, Bosher, Kohn and Frieri would hold on and give the Angels the win. Light that baby up!
