Well, after taking two of three from the Texas Rangers, the Angels dropped a makeup game with the Minnesota Twins yesterday, losing 6-3. And the thought occurred to me, if the Angels are in full spoiler mode right now the next six games may be a little rough since there’s nothing to spoil for the Blue Jays, who they’ll visit for a three game set starting today, and then head off to Houston for another three game set.
Jered Weaver (9-8, 3.38 ERA) took the mound versus Pedro Hernandez (3-1, 5.25 ERA) and although Weaver pitched well enough to win, he earned another no decision in the loss as the Angels fall to 67-76 for the season and continue to hold steady at around six to 10 games under .500.
The death blow for the Halos came in the seventh when Grant Green misplayed what should have been a double-play ball allowing fans to finally find Oswaldo (Arcia)… on first base. That ignited a bullpen meltdown courtesy of young Cory Rasmus and Buddy “Lee” Boshers. The Angels relievers combined to walk 4 in the inning allowing the Twinkies to score two runs on no hits… that sounds about right.
The Angels next take on the Blue Jays in Toronto. Both teams enter the series with identical records after starting the season with the highest of expectations… isn’t it ironic… don’tcha think?
