The 2014 Greatness in Baseball Yearly Awards (GIBBY), nominations were announced today and multiple Los Angeles Angels players made the list. The awards will be voted on by media, front-office personnel, MLB alumni, fans at MLB.com and the Society for American Baseball Research. Without further ado here are the Angels 2014 nominations.

Mike Trout is up for multiple GIBBY awards. First is the Major League Baseball MVP. Ten players were nominated with Trout being one of them. Some of the other names include Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros, Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Victor Martinez of the Detroit Tigers, Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins.

Trout was also nominated for the best hitter award. Some of the same names are on this list. McCutchen, Martinez, Stanton and Nelson Cruz of the Baltimore Orioles are ones that stick out from this list.

He is also up for awards in the Must C category. His terrific throw against Kansas City to nail Nori Aoki at third base is up for best outfield throw. Also in the Must C category for Trout is the walk-off home run that he hit on May 15 against Tampa Bay. Rounding out the nominations for Trout is a duo act with Astros mascot Orbit who tries to reel in Trout with a fishing pole.

Needless to say Mike Trout could come home with a ton of accolades but he wasn’t the only Angel to be nominated for an award.

Matt Shoemaker was nominated for top rookie. He finished second in the voting by Sporting News, but he will have a chance to be voted in this time by the fans and MLB executives. Joining Shoemaker in the pitching categories is Huston Street, Joe Smith and Garrett Richards. Street is nominated for best closer, while Smith is up for best setup man in baseball. Richards is nominated for breakout pitcher after finishing the season 13-4 with a 2.61 ERA.

When it comes to manager of the year and executive of the year the Angels have nominations in both categories. Mike Scioscia and Jerry Dipoto were nominated for their respective categories.

In the Must C categories, Kole Calhoun was nominated for best catch, on his home run robbery at Fenway Park on August 19. Albert Pujols‘ 500th home run is a nomination for best moment of the 2014 season. Pujols is also nominated along with Trout for the best walk-off. His coming in the 19 inning win against Boston on August 9th.

That rounds out the nominations for the GIBBY awards for Angels stars. You can head here and vote for the GIBBY’s to try and help the Angels’ stars win the awards. Do what you can and we will see who wins the awards December 6 at 5 p.m.
