The Los Angeles Angels took on the Seattle Mariners as the Cactus League continues in front of a good crowd of 8425. The Angels would get some solid play with 12 hits, scoring 9 as they beat the Mariners 9-7.

A late scratch in pitching would lead to Nate Smith taking the mound against the Seattle Mariners today. Andrew Heaney was originally schedule to start but, was pulled due to flu-like symptoms. The Angels quickly found themselves down 3 runs on 3 hits including an RBI single by Kyle Seager and a 2 run home run by Robinson Cano. The former Arkansas Traveler would regain his composer and put together a solid second inning allowing no hits.

Joe Smith would replace Nate to start the bottom of the 3rd. Seattle would bring in Vidal Nuno. The defensive side of the field was a big plus for the Angels. Seattle would go 2 innings without a hit after a hot start against Nate Smith.

The Angels would get on the board in the 4th off a Daniel Nava double to center field leading to a  Geovany Soto and Carlos Perez score. Nava continues to impress giving the indication that he’ll provide some good at bats for the Halos this season.

Cam Bedrosian would replace Joe Smith to start the bottom of the 4th inning. Bedrosian would give up a solo home run to Franklin Gutierrez, his second HR in spring training. Bedrosian clearly having a rough spring training was pulled after one inning with Greg Mahle coming in during the 5th. The former Inland Empire 66er would give up 2 hits including a double early to Daniel Robertson. He would go on to score off a Seager hit giving him 2 RBI’s on the day.

The Mariners would bring in Jonathan Aro to start the top of the 6th. Aro would give up a double to Johnny Giavotella, and a RBI from Nava on a base hit to center bringing Giavotella in for the run. Nava was big today offensively with 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Aro would be pulled in the 7th after the Angels threatened with the base’s loaded. The Angels would score to tie the game at 5 off a Nick Buss double to the center driving in Rafael Ortega and Roberto Baldaquin. The Angels would take the lead following a Sherman Johnson double leading to two scoring runs during the 7th.

In the 8th, Rey Navarro doubled leading to a Chad Hinshaw score. In the 9th Sherman Johnson singles to allow Nick Buss to score.

There was plenty to be excited about today, The Angels are still in the getting to know you phase of spring training. However, with the offensive emergence of Nava, Buss, Sherman Johnson, and Navarro, there could be some play makers on the Angels that could complement Mike Trout and Albert Pujols who did not play today.
