A loss bigger than any game the Los Angeles Angels could have suffered. A trend that has followed them this season. C.J. Cron breaks his left hand after getting hit by a Michael Wright fastball last Friday night.

This is a very significant one. The Los Angeles Angels slugger was finally proving his worth with the club. In 8 games Cron had 17 RBI’s and 8 extra base hits. The man was on fire and helped lead the Angels to their longest winning streak of the season.

Sadly, it quickly ended as soon as it started. Cron had surgery on Tuesday, and is now expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Cron and the Angels were hoping it would a much shorter timetable, but due to the severity of Cron’s break and where it occurred, the longer timetable was necessary. He suffered the injury in the first game of last weekend’s series against the Orioles. Ending the red-hot Cron.

Without Cron, the Los Angeles Angels lose that big bat that has complimented Trout. Cron and Trout seemed to be on the same page and that chemistry was only found between those two. Yet, it was short-lived.

Even before there was a confirmation of a serious injury, the Angels recalled Ji-Man Choi from Salt lake Triple-A. Choi has never made a giant impact in the majors but was really never given a chance to prove his value either.

Hopefully with this new opportunity he can provide a very much-needed spark for the lifeless Los Angeles Angels lineup.  Choi will have help from Jefry Marte who was also share the load at first base and designated hitter along with veteran Albert Pujols.  However, if the Angels have any hopes of making a second half run to put them back in the playoff picture, these three players will have to step it up big-time in order to compensate the loss of production from losing Cron.

We all know that Pujols can get red-hot as he has shown this capability throughout his career, but the question is can either Marte or Choi, or a combination of the two step up and provide back-up as the Angels go into the bottom of their line-up. Cron did that and that is the challenge facing Marte and Choi.  Hopefully they will be up to the task over the next two months.
