The Los Angeles Angels are embarking on the 2017 season. Leading them will be their skipper who’s entering his 18th season with the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels clubhouse manager Mike Scioscia is entering his 18th season with the Angels. There’s plenty of reason for Scioscia to be excited about leading the Angels this season. Scioscia has one of the most defensively sound teams he’s had in recent years. He’ll have a chance to coach the Angels all the way to the postseason. This will add more to his already impressive resume.

Scioscia became the Angels manager in 1999. Bill Clinton was our nation’s President. Eminem had just released his first album the Slim Shady LP. The New York Yankee’s won the World Series and the San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Finals. Needless to say, 18 years was a long time ago.

In his long, decorated tenure as the Angels manager Mike Scioscia has won 1,490 games as a manager, including a World Series Championship in 2002.

This season, Scioscia has some sizeable talent to work with. Not only does he have the best player in the world in Mike Trout, he’ll also have some defensive players to help the infield. As a result, the Angels will win those close games that slipped away from them last season.

Regardless of how you may view Scioscia, you have to respect his tenure. While you may believe he shouldn’t be the Angels manager, you have to accept that he has experience. Scioscia has the longest held position in the MLB and the second longest in the four major sports. San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is the longest, coaching the Spurs since 1996.

Scioscia will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the all-time greats.  While his future with the Angels is somewhat in question, you can expect Angels GM Billy Eppler to retain Mike Scioscia after his contract runs out in 2018.

As of now, Scioscia is the best person to lead the Angels this season. He’ll have to manage pitching counts with his top pitchers and ensure that his best batters stay healthy during the 2017 season. Making the post season has to be Scioscia’s number one goal. Once there, it will be up to Scioscia to make the needed adjustments so the Angels can get their first playoff win in the Mike Trout era.
