If you are an Angels fan, you’ll probably never forget AK’s most memorable moment as an Angel when he belted three home runs in game 5 of the ALCS to help the Halos advance to the World Series. Kennedy was a fantastic Angel. In fact, Halos Heaven ranked Kennedy as the 24th best Angel EVER.

It has recently been reported that the soon to be 37-year-old has opened up his own training facility — which happens to only be about six miles from Angel Stadium.

Former #Angels and #Dodgers INF Adam Kennedy hasn’t officially retired but is opening a baseball development facility in Anaheim next week.

— Mike DiGiovanna (@MikeDiGiovanna) January 2, 2013

I believe that Kennedy — even at his rather “old” age — would be a great fit for an Angels team that lacks depth on the bench. It is unclear whether Kennedy is in good shape or not, but there’s only one way to find out! I think it is quite obvious that if Kennedy was to play this year, he would want to play in SoCal. Adam can play more than one position in the infield, so it would be safe to say that he would assume the backup role at each infield position — excluding first base. However, Kennedy would have some competition. At the moment, infielder Andrew Romine is in line to take over the role of backup infielder.

Many believe that Romine is capable of great things, but that’s just it…”capable”. In other words, he is a young, unproven talent. I’m sure Andy would do just fine if he was given 350-400 at-bats in a season, and I’m also sure that he would play decent defense. However, what if Kennedy was given the same chance and was able to do better than “just fine”?

I guess the point I’m trying to make here is, why not? Why not sign Kennedy to a one-year deal? Why not give the ex-Angel an invitation to Spring Training? I can guarantee that every Angel fan would love seeing Kennedy back in Angels red one last time.

Just to clarify, there have not been any rumors surrounding Adam and the Angels, it is simply speculation.

A disastrous eighth inning lead to the the series being all knotted up at one going into tonight’s game. Sometimes the calls go your way. Other times they don’t. Let’s take a look at what happened.

Jerome Williams pitched relatively well until the eighth inning. He even brought his bat with him. He started a rally in the top of the third with a double. Torii Hunter walked and Albert Pujols singled to load the bases. The Angels took advantage of Dodger mistakes to score their runs and Adam Kennedy‘s error on a ground ball by Kendrys Morales lead to Williams scoring to give the Halos a 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when three straight singles by A.J. Ellis, Andre Ethier and Juan Rivera tied the game.

In the sixth, Morales walked and Mark Trumbo singled. Two batters later, Hank Conger singled to load the bases. Williams hit a routine ground ball to second. Kennedy went to throw it to Dee Gordon to get the force, however, Gordon was late in covering and dropped the ball and Morales would score.

Then we get to the eighth inning. After Dee Gordon reached on a force play, he tries to steal second. Conger’s throw appeared to have caught him trying to steal. Joe West called him safe. Looking at all the replay angles, it seemed like he was out, but Cowboy Joe didn’t see it that way. Ellis walked and Andre Ethier tied the game with an RBI single. Juan Rivera then hit a three run home run to ice it for the Dodgers.

The rubber game of the series will take place at 10:05 ET/ 7:05 PT with C.J. Wilson facing Nathan Eovaldi.

It may seem like I have developed a fascination with baseball players’ birthdays but you don’t know the whole story. I think I’m addicted to ice cream cake. I tried to get a Carvel credit card by creating my own application on a napkin. I’m a couple of Fudgie the Whales away from being a homeless person. I don’t even like Adam Kennedy but if I don’t write about a birthday it’s hard to justify eating an entire Cookie Puss for lunch.

Kennedy turns 36-year-old today. The Dodgers signed him this offseason for reason that still aren’t clear. Kennedy debuted for the Cardinals in 1999 but was traded to the Angels the following year for Jim Edmonds. Kennedy would man second base for the Angels until 2006 when he returned to the Cardinals via free agency.

The highlight of Kennedy’s career was 2002. He had his best regular season (um..) season hitting .312/.345/.449 with career highs of a 4.8 bWAR (Baseball-Reference wins above replacement) and 3.7 fWAR (Fangraphs wins above replacement). The real magic happened during the Halos run to the 2002 World Series championship. In game five of the ALCS against the Twins, Kennedy went 4-4 with three home runs. That game basically won him the ALCS MVP.

Kennedy hit .340/.353/.660 during the 2002 playoffs but Game 5 of the ALCS will never be forgotten. For that, the Hangout wishes Kennedy a happy birthday.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to shame eat through this brain freeze.
