Albert Pujols: The Three Hole Dilemma
Like Christmas Dinner, Classic Rock and Old School Hip Hop, Baseball has long been deeply rooted in tradition. There is a defined order – a blue print – a certain way to do things. We serve ham or prime rib on December 25th, rock fans hold their breath in anticipation of the guitar solo and hip hop heads salivate when they hear a scratch chorus like Albert Pujols when he sees a hanging curve ball. Speaking of Pujols… One long standing tradition in baseball is for the teams best pure hitter to bat in the number three position in the [...]
Angels Extend Howie Kendrick
While it may be too early to name Jerry Dipoto the General Manager of the Year, I did order him one of those fruit buckets that look like flowers. Somebody has to keep that company afloat. As Dipoto recently said and I artfully regurgitated, the Angels were interested in extending Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar. On Saturday night, Dipoto did half of that, locking up Kendrick. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale had the call… If the financials are correct, I love this deal for the Angels. Kendrick had his career year in 2011 at the plate (18 home runs, .349 wOBA), [...]
The Extendables: Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar
The Angels double play duo of Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar are headed into their final year of arbitration. With free agency looming after the 2012 season, GM Jerry Dipoto will have to decide if the second baseman and short stop are worth multi-year deals. Let’s roll the general manager speak from this LA Times article… “At this point, it’s something we’ve begun to explore and will continue to explore,” Dipoto said. “There is no timetable, but certainly, it’s something we’re interested in pursuing.” Howie Kendrick Kendrick, 28, hit a career high 18 home runs and a .285/.338/.464 line on [...]
Its a wrap. The 2011 Angels finished 86 – 76 and lost seven of their final ten games – while squandering a potential wild card opportunity. The season was largely characterized by a strong starting pitching staff featuring Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and Ervin Santana – a weak offense featuring just one player ( Howie Kendrick) with an OPS above .800 and a shaky bull pen which really consisted of only one reliable reliever in the person of Scott Downs. All things considered this club was lucky to win 86 games. Lets take a look at what we learned about the 2011 Angels. Starting with the infield.

It’s Tuesday. The prime day to hit up your favorite Taco spot and for Twitter Stalking at the Hangout. In this weeks installment we check in with the Angels best hitter and most prolific Tweeter – second basemen Howie Kendrick. It’s no secret the past few weeks have been trying as a fan of the Halos. We are gonna turn this ship around. We appreciate [...]
Halos Homer Their Way Back And The Monday Links
The Angels flexed some rare muscle Monday on their way to a 10 – 8 come from behind win in Kansas City. Torii Hunter hit a two run big fly that gave the halos a 9-8 lead in the ninth. Hunters game winning shot was setup by solo homers from Peter Bourjos and Mark Trumbo in the 8th. Hunter also homered earlier in the game giving the Halos a rare 4 home run day. Onto the Monday Links:
Tuesday Twitter Stalking: Howie Kendrick Will Now Be Walking Up To LL Cool J’s Going Back To Cali
Howie Kendrick has a new walk up song thanks to Twitter. Howie Tweeted an invitation for his followers to send suggestions for a new walk up song : Thinking of changing my come out song. What do you think I should change it to? I’ll pick 1. 2 tics to a game next home stand 4 winning song. And then announced the winner about a week later. Check out how the voting went down after the jump.
The Halos Won 7-2 last night behind a gem of a start by 21 year old rookie Tyler Chatwood and 3 RBI nights from both Hank Conger and Howie Kendrick. Conger’s 3 run shot in the 6th put the Halos up 6-1 and virtually locked up the W for the Angels. Tyler Chatwood was that good, displaying great fastball command, an excellent pace and a sharp curve ball on his way to his first big league win. Chatwood’s final line : 7 Innings, 1 ER ,5 hits, 2 walks and 3 k’s likely understate how impressive his night was. The Sox have a [...]

We put in about 9hrs easily at the stadium. Howie’s Twitter game is on point. I’m expecting a big year from Kendrick [...]
