Scott Kazmir A Cy Young Candidate?!

Ok calm down before you start questioning my sanity and “journalistic credibility”.. I didn’t say that.

No, it was not me who referred to Scott Kazmir as a potential Cy Young candidate it was your boy Mike Scioscia. He was quoted yesterday saying:

"“We’re talking about a guy that, if he pitches to his potential, will be a Cy Young candidate,” manager Mike Scioscia said. “This season hasn’t gone as scripted, but he has never given up, and you saw that again (Saturday @Detroit).”"

Really Mike?! I mean yes Kazmir showed much improved velocity, and he was finally able to put hitters away with 2 strikes in his last start. He pitched better than he has all year , but lets not get ahead of ourselves. What happened to the one day, one game, one pitch at a time Mike Scioscia we all know and love? Scott Kazmir has struggled to string together any consistent positive momentum this season. So for Halo fans to believe that after one good start he has found the magic is going to be a tough sell.

The Angels really really need Kazmir to be good. With the loss of Joel Pineiro the Angels currently have 2 large holes in the rotation. Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and Ervin Santana can all be counted on for quality starts on most nights. A Cy Young version of Scott Kazmir (though unlikely to emerge) would be absolutely huge for the Angels. Kazmir’s reemergence may give the few eternal optimist Halo fans reason to actually believe the Angels aren’t dead just yet. That search for consistency starts tonight against the power packed Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays waltz into town with an AL leading 179 home runs. Kazmir’s given up 17 home runs in just 18 starts. Something has got to give.

After tonight we’ll start to see just how crazy Mike Scioscia’s Cy Young prediction really is….. or not
