The 2011 MLB Draft kicks off tonight at 4Pm.  and the Angels will first go on the  clock with the 17th pick in round 1. Many “experts” have the Angels slated to select  a combination of players including but not limited to: SS Francisco Lindor, SS  Javier Baez, P Daniel Norris, and  P Taylor Guerrieri.

Regardless of who the first Angels selected will be – it appears clear that the Angels draft strategy is shifting a bit under new scouting director Ric Wilson. As General Manager Tony Reagins was quoted in the Orange County Register, the Halos will be looking to get more physical.

"There will be subtle differences. We’ve talked about that over the last six months (since Wilson was hired),” Reagins said. “We’ll look to get more physical, more balanced in our approach. … The communication with our scouts is going to be enhanced.“We’re still looking for athletes, but we want to get more physical.”"

For Halo fans suffering through yet another power challenged season this could be a good sign for the future.
