Angels Mini Sweep And Brace For Texas Sized Series With Rangers

The Angels took two straight from the White Sox with an 8-0 win Wednesday night behind seven shutout innings from Jered Weaver and some timely hitting by a suddenly existent offense. The win was the Halos 6th straight and coupled with Texas losing to Boston pushed the Angels to 2.5 games back in the AL West.
With an off day Thursday the Angels will likely setup their big three (Haren – Santana – Weaver) to pitch in this weekends massive series with the Rangers. That would mean both Weaver and Santana would pitch on just three days rest for the first time in their careers. Scioscia is expected to announce the rotation for the series (that starts Friday) at some point later today. The very fact that Scioscia is considering bumping up Weav and Santana speaks volumes to the importance of this series. I’m all for the move personally.
I still feel the Rangers are the better club but that advantage is based largely on the fact that Texas is much more talented offensively. If the Angels can somehow manage to negate some of that offensive fire power then the teams aren’ t nearly as far apart.
Smart move Sosh.
