The Angels ended their search for General Manager Saturday announcing that former interim D Backs General Manager Jerry Dipoto would assume the post vacated by Tony Reagins last month. Here’s the official release:

"October 29, 2011 – The Angels Saturday announced former Major League pitcher Jerry Dipoto has agreed to terms on a five-year contract to become General Manager. He will oversee all aspects of the club’s baseball operations and report directly to Owner Arte Moreno. Dipoto becomes the 11th General Manager in club history.“What a thrill this is,” said Dipoto. “I am excited and honored to be part of one of the premier franchises in baseball. The club’s success in the last 10 years isn’t just notable, it has catapulted the Angels into one of the top organizations in baseball. The Angels will hold a press conference at noon PT today to introduce Dipoto."

You can watch the press conference live here. Although time will be the greatest judge this appears to be a solid hire. Dipoto possesses some player evaluation background, is well connected in the “circle” and as described by Arte Moreno is an analytical thinker (advanced stats anyone). Now the business of rebuilding the Angels as a true contender begins. Should be a fun ride.
