Angels Unlikely To Sign Ryan Madson *Wink*

Ryan Madson is still a free agent. With the Red Sox acquiring Andrew Bailey, the Angels figured to be the frontrunners. The Halos were even open dialoguing with Madson as recently as Christmas. Yet GM Jerry Dipoto insists the Angels are very unlikely to sign Madson. Mike DiGiovanna provides the quotes for the LA Times…
"“What I’ll say with some degree of certainty is that our most significant acquisitions have already been made,” Dipoto said, alluding to the signings of slugger Albert Pujols (10 years, $250 million) and pitcher C.J. Wilson (five years, $77.5 million).“We’re trying to add depth, and in a perfect world, we’d like to find another guy to join Jordan Walden, Scott Downs and LaTroy Hawkins to help with those last nine outs. But closer has never been the real priority.”"
If you’ll recall from the Winter Meetings, Dipoto downplayed the Angels’ interest in Albert Pujols. DiGiovanna doesn’t mention if Dipoto gave the old “wink, wink, nudge, nudge” when he claimed he was unlikely to sign Madson. Dipoto did give another version of the dreaded vote of confidence to Jordan Walden though. That never works out. My last girlfriend gave me the vote of confidence and she ended up with my TV and Carcassonne (the game, not the city).
Walden led the AL in blown saves in 2011 but he was actually pretty good. Maybe the price is too high for Madson. Maybe Dipoto does mean Walden is his closer. Maybe I’ll get my TV back one day. Point is, I don’t think we’ve heard the last of Madson to the Angels.
