Daniel Reynolds Gets A 50 Game Suspension

Daniel Reynolds has only pitched 34.1 innings at Rookie-ball Orem for the Angels since being drafted in 2009. He also has two failed drug tests. Certainly not a good sign. The recent failure will cost Reynolds 50 games this season…
"ANAHEIM — Angels Minor League pitcher Daniel Reynolds received a 50-game suspension after a second violation for a “drug of abuse” under the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday.Reynolds, a 20-year-old right-hander who has spent the last two years pitching for the Rookie-level Orem Owlz, will begin serving his suspension at the start of the upcoming regular season."
This sounds like a non performance enhancing drug violation since the “drugs of abuse” policy with MLB pertains to marijuana (and other Schedule I and II drugs) but not drunk driving. The rules are the rules, though, and whatever Reynolds tested positive for will cost him most of his 2012 season.
According to Matt Eddy’s sources, the 20-year-old righty sat at 93-95 MPH and touched 98 with his fastball. I, of course, turned to the wise Kevin Goldstein for some quick insight on Reynolds…
Sounds like a potential bullpen arm to me. It might be worth monitoring to see how this damages his development and relationship with the Angels organization.
