The Angels bat woke up with Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout leading the way as the Angels won 12-5. Pujols went 2 for 3 with four RBI. Trout reached base five times scoring four runs and Mark Trumbo drove in five.
The Angels got started right away as the first four hitters reached base off Barry Zito including a three home run by Pujols. Peter Bourjos drove in the last run with a sac fly. The Giants got one back in the second as Angel Pagan reached on an error and Pablo Sandoval drove him in with a single. The Angels responded in their half as Mike Trout doubled and Pujols drove him in with a single to give him all four RBI in the first two innings. The Angels added to the lead in the fourth as John Hester and Trout singled, Pujols walked and then Trumbo drove everyone in with a triple after George Kontos relieved Zito. Howard Kendrick drove Trumbo in with a sac fly. The Giants got two runs back after two singles and another Angel error. Ryan Theriot hit a sac fly and then Melky Cabrera grounded into a fielder’s choice.
In the top of the seventh the Giants got three singles to load the bases. Buster Posey drove one run in with a single and Pagan drove in another with a groundout to make it 9-5. The Angels would put it out of reach with a rally in the eighth. Bourjos singled and stole a base. Trout walked. Hunter drove in Boujos with a single and advanced to second on the throw. Pujols was intentionally walked and Trumbo got his fourth and fifth RBI of the night with a single.
This was the first time the Angels had scored more than three runs in a game since June 10. The Angels look to take the rubber game of the series led by the return of Jered Weaver off the DL against Ryan Vogelsong at 7:05 PT.
