You could almost hear the Wild West showdown music when the Angels took on the Rangers last night. Okay maybe not, but it was important for the Angels to win with ace Jered Weaver on the mound and that’s exactly what they did winning 6-1. The Angels did have to make a little bit of a comeback to do so.

Elvis Andrus took Weaver deep in the top of the first. It was all Angels after that. Mike Trout and Albert Pujols singled and Howard Kendrick drove in Trout with a double in the bottom of the first. Kendrick drove in his second run of the game in the fourth by driving in Pujols with a groundout. After Alberto Callaspo singled, Erick Aybar doubled him and Mark Trumbo in to conclude the rally in the fourth. Trumbo led off the sixth with his 27th homer of the year. Trout added to the lead with a seventh inning homer; his 15th of the year.

Weaver is now 12-1 with an ERA of 2.20 for the year after his seven inning performance last night. He is now 7-0 with a 0.67 ERA at home for the year. He is very much in the running for the Cy Young award this year.

The series continues today with Ervin Santana taking on Yu Darvish at 1:05 PT/4:05 ET. With the trade deadline looming, this is going to be a very imporant start for Santana.
