Mike Trout kicked off the scoring with his 27th home run of the year in first, the second consecutive game he’s homered leading off the first for the Halos. The Angels got their other two runs of the game in the second. Erick Aybar singled and two batters later, Alberto Callaspo hit his ninth homer of the year.

The Tigers fought back but fell short. Andy Dirks led off the top of the fourth with his sixth homer of the year. They got their other run in the seventh when Delmon Young reached on an infield hit to Aybar and went to second on his error. Young then went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Brennan Boesch‘s double.

The Oakland Athletics come to town starting tomorrow for a huge four game series. The Angels swept them last week and the A’s are looking to return the favor. Jarrod Parker and Dan Haren duel at 7:05PT/10:05ET.
