The Sporting News Predicts The Los Angeles Angels As World Series Champs

I don’t know if you guys read the baseball preview magazines, but I like to. I read them on the train to work or to help try to fall asleep. Well today, I was out and about and saw that the Sporting News Baseball Preview. To me, it’s one of the signs of spring when the first baseball preview magazines are out on newsstands. Lo and behold their World Series pick is the Angels and the Nationals with the Angels winning.

First of all, if that’s indeed the World Series, I think it would garner huge ratings. Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg would get a lot of eyeballs on television screens throughout the duration of the series. Secondly, it would be just a fun match-up with a strong possibility of going seven games.
Do I or anyone really put stock in baseball previews this early? No. Just look at the news today of Justin Upton being traded to the Braves (which, by the way, is a good thing for the Angels since the Rangers didn’t get him). They are fun to look at and read and debate about.
The Sporting News also lists Mike Trout as the left fielder on the All-AL Team and ranks the farm system as the worst in all of baseball. Kaleb Cowart is listed at 47 in their top 50 prospects list. Farm system rankings can be deceiving especially when you bring up a Mike Trout from your system into the major leagues and he becomes an all-star.
