Downs coming back for more?: Lefty reliever Scott Downs is apparently open to a contract extension with the club. He turns next month, so you do have to wonder what the front office thinks about that. The other question is, with Sean Burnett signed for the next couple of seasons, what do they do with Nick Maronde? Is he a reliever or a starter. That answer will impact what happens to Downs moving forward.

No Starters Til March: Mike Scisocia will not have any of the five expected starters pitching before March 1. Jerome Williams, Brad Mills, Barry Enright, Garrett Richards, Nick Maronde and A.J. Schugel will all start games before March 1. Only Erick Aybar because of the WBC, Peter Bourjos and Mark Trumbo will be playing this weekend.

Madson in March?: The Angels still don’t know when Ryan Madson will be throwing in games. He just started throwing from flat ground this week due to being shut down with discomfort in his surgically repaired elbow. He’s only throwing from 60 feet right now and still has to progress to longer tosses. Madson would love to throw in a Cactus League game in March but isn’t sure if it will happen.
