Tonight’s game with the Indians ended in an Angels victory but it didn’t come easy. Instead both teams grinded it out as their starting pitchers failed to bring their best stuff as both offenses struggled to bring runners home.

Angels starter C.J. Wilson struggled with his command through 5 1/3 getting out of numerous jams. Wilson left the 6th having thrown 117 pitches and with two men on with one out. The bullpen came in and shut down the Indians as Scioscia played the match-up game, having Michael Kohn face Nick Swisher (who popped out) and then bringing in Buddy Boshers (his big league debut) to face Jason Kipnis who struckout swinging.

In the 8th the Angels tacked on some four runs with a couple of flair hits and some help from a pass ball and two errors by the Indians to begin the inning. Chris Nelson added on with an RBI single and the Angels went up 6-2. A few batters later J.B. Shuck came up with the bases loaded and tacked on another run with a sac fly RBI to left to put the Angels up by five. Kevin Jepsen and Ernesto Frieri finished up the the 8th and the 9th with two clean innings.

Despite the score, it wasn’t a pretty victory but it ended in an Angels win nonetheless and saw the Angels bullpen have their second solid game in a row. The Angels will go for the sweep tomorrow for a 11am PST starting time where Jerome Williams will face Justin Masterson.
