July 25, 2010- Joe Saunders, Tyler Skaggs, and two minor leaguers sent to Arizona for Dan Haren

Dan Haren was a workhorse before his back gave out during the 2012 season. He placed seventh in Cy Young Award voting in his first season with the Angels and started at least 30 games in two full seasons.

Joe Saunders, meanwhile, never got comfortable in Arizona. He went 3-7 following the trade and 18-23 throughout the remainder of his stint with the Diamondbacks. By summer 2012, they’ve had enough and traded ‘Hokie Joe’ to the Orioles.

Saunders never recovered. He’s 0-5 with a 6.13 ERA with the Rangers this season.

The trade stipulated a player to be named later be sent to Arizona. Tyler Skaggs was that player. Ironically, Dipoto-the same general manager that brought Skaggs to the desert- brought him back to Anaheim two years later.

At 23-years-old, Skaggs still has a ways to go. Fortunately, he has until 2020 to figure it out before becoming a free agent.
