Iannetta stands out in loss.

With the catching spotlight on Carlos Perez, Chris Iannetta has sort of faded into the shadows. The Angels headed over the border to face the Blue Jays in Toronto this afternoon. Iannetta got the start with pitcher C.J. Wilson. The games outcome would unfortunately overshadow Iannetta’s successful day, as the bullpen would give up six earned runs in the sixth and seventh innings in a 10-6 loss.

Iannetta accounted for two doubles, a solo home run in the eighth inning, and two RBI. His home run was his first of the season. The veteran catcher came into this game with just a .117 batting average, with only 3 RBI in his last 10 games.

Could this signify the return of Iannetta offensively? This could be the realization that he has competition with a young upcoming catcher Carlos Perez, or all that snow he shoveled in Rhode Island during the offseason has finally paid off. Angel fans can hope that they can see two consistent hitting catchers in the lineup. With the recent success Carlos Perez has shown, its perhaps that this was the wake-up call Iannetta has needed.
