Let me start with prefacing this as a hypothetical situation. What if there was a Home Run Derby with the greatest power hitters of recent memory? Who would win?…The kicker: no drug testing, so if you’re doing steroids, we don’t care. The field will consist of 8 players from 1990 to present day. Who would win?

Mark McGwire (1998)

Longest Home Run: 545 feet

Lets face it, in the mid to late 90’s there was no hitter who displayed power like “Big Mac”. This guy swung a bat that resembled a tooth pick in his hands, and when he connected the baseball looked like a golf ball. In the 1998 season, McGwire launched 70 home runs, which was unheard of at the time. He had the type of year that could only be resembled in a video game, and you would have to cheat the sliders to even compete with those numbers. Big Mac is a no brainer for the Derby. The 1999 Derby at Fenway Park was still one of the most memorable events of all-time, and theres a good chance some of his dingers are still in orbit.
