RATING: GOOD
This was an interesting deal, and it seems like anything involving Dan Haren shouldn’t be a surprise. For whatever reason he has perfected the art of stringing together the right combination of good season, bad season, injury, etc. to still be making big money. As for the trade, the Angels made a good move for the simple reason that he pitched lights out for the Halos once they acquired him. In 13 games, Haren was 5-4 with a 2.87 ERA and 75 K for the Angels. But much like the Zack Greinke situation, they couldn’t keep him. The Angels had multiple trades set up in that offseason to move Haren, but when they all fell through both parties settled on a buy out around $4 million.
Patrick Corbin has been a plus for the Diamondbacks, he was an All-Star in 2013, which was the last time he pitched up until this past month. So his inability to stay healthy has made this trade look decent for the Angels.
