The month of August, the Angels hope, will be a time that can be forgotten as the season enters its final weeks. August couldn’t have gone worse for the Angels ball club as it seemed that the entire squad was just off the mark in hitting and pitching. As August came to an end, the Angels found themselves two games below .500 and losing ground in the AL playoff race.

September seems like the light at the end of the tunnel for the Angels as they see this as an excuse to shake it off and look for a fresh start. So far in September the Angels have won their first two games in their series in Oakland. In last nights affair, Matt Shoemaker again looked fantastic only giving up one run through seven innings.

“You have to tell yourself it’s a new month”, Angels closer Huston Street told MLB.com, “Maybe it has power. I don’t know. But it seems to work in baseball. I can’t explain it, but it just seems to have a pattern that way. It’s a new month, thankfully.”

In last nights affair, the offense provided production scoring four runs in the third inning and the bottom three hitters totaled in four hits as well. Defense was solid as well after an forgettable August , in which they tied the MLB lead in errors. Although they are now back to .500, the Angels still have  their work cut out for them. They still remain five 1/2 games back in the AL West and three back of the Rangers in the Wild Card.
