Walking down the Street, I Gott to meet Mr. Smith: Angels Bullpen Report Card

Cesar Ramos: B+
Ramos’ 2.75 ERA was the best among the Halos’ relief pitchers last season. He finished 21 games, second only to the team’s closer, Huston Street, and his 2-1 record was a vast improvement from his 2-6 record with the Tampa Bay Rays the year before.
Fernando Salas: B
Salas’ five wins tied Joe Smith for the team-high among relief pitchers and his career-high 72 appearances were the most among Angels’s pitchers all together.
His 4.24 ERA isn’t fun to look at and he struggled to keep the ball in the yard allowing eight home runs, but he also had 74 strikeouts and walked only 12 batters.
Jose Alvarez: B
Given his first chance to be in the bullpen for a full season, Alvarez had career numbers in nearly every category.
He had a respectable 4-3 record with a 3.49 ERA in 67 innings pitched but he walked 23 batters, the most in the relief unit.
Once he gets his control down and if he can work on mixing up pitch speeds a little more (with his sinker and four-seam fastball), he could see a lot of improvement for next year.
