Los Angeles Angels: Top 5 Third Basemen in Team History
By Mitch Quesada
3 of 7
5. Ken McMullen (3 seasons, 421 games)
10.3 WAR, .251 BA, 373 H, 44 HR, 163 RBI
McMullen didn’t play long for the Angels but his value with the team is important. He only needed three years to compile a 10.3 WAR, compared to six years with the Los Angeles Dodgers in which he only had a 1.8 WAR.
In 1971, he was only the third Angels third baseman to hit 20 home runs in a season and while his offensive numbers are somewhat average, his defense is why he is on this list.
He finished the in the top-5 in the league in fielding percentage each of his three years with the club and saved a total of 21 runs at the hot corner in that time span. He was also in the top-5 in assists and putouts in those years.
