LA Angels round table discussion: Around the Halo

The LA Angels are quickly approaching the mid-way point of the 2016 season. While it hasn’t been the best season in team history, there are still some upsides to discuss. Let’s go around the Halo with our Halo hangout round table discussion.
1. On a grade scale, how would you grade the Angels on the 2016 season?
(David Rice: @califladave22) Considering all the injury issues, they are lucky they are not further behind the leaders of the AL West. They have shown a tremendous heart and resilience so far this year and have had a knack for comebacks and dramatic wins. That being said they have a few major collapses and definitely have numerous players under-performing such as Carlos Perez, anyone playing left field, Jered Weaver, Hector Santiago, Jose Alvarez, Huston Street somewhat. I give them a C plus.
(Joshua Lea: @joshualeaa) It’s been disappointing, i felt like they gave up some game after falling behind early. Sure, they’re riddled with injuries, but you still got play and get wins. Lately, they just haven’t been doing that. I give them a D.
(Christoph Ludwig: @ludwigchristoph) Mike Trout is Mike Trout: Kole Calhoun and Yunel Escobar are having good years. Matt Shoemaker‘s last five starts have been phenomenal, but other than that this team has been a disaster. Their rotation ERA of 4.51 is 13th in the AL and their hitters have managed a .716 OPS, which is 11th. They’ve been ravaged by injuries, the rotation especially, which isn’t necessarily their fault, but the organization’s lack of depth has made them unable to compensate for the losses. I give them a D-.
(Grant Avise: @Westcoastbias87) Its tough to really give this season a fair grade because of all the injuries. I feel like this team can be really good once its healthy. Considering the amount of injuries, things really could be a lot worse than they have been. I’ve seen this team play with heart but never give up but it’s tough when you have so many players, especially starting pitchers on the shelf. I’m going to give it a C.
(Mitch Quesada: @mitchTquesada) They’ve performed better than I expected given all the injuries they suffered this season. It’s easy to see why this team is struggling, Mike Trout, Kole Calhoun, and Albert Pujols (much to my surprise) seem to be the only players performing well that haven’t been seriously hurt yet this season. The rotation of lineups and shuffle in the rotation have just been too much for the team to overcome and the season is probably all but over at this point. But I give them credit for playing through it and not giving up yet. I give them a C.
(Adrian Arvizu: @Adrian7192) The fact is they haven’t been without any of the starters in the original season. The platoon of Nava and Gentry actually worked until Nava and Gentry got hurt. The starting pitching suffers big losses with Richards and Heaney being out. We have pretty productive pitching but they have plenty of ups and downs. I give them a solid C.
