Mid-Season Report Card: Los Angeles Angels 3rd Baseman

Jefry Marte – Like Yunel Escobar, the Los Angeles Angels also acquired Jefry Marte through a trade this season. The Angels traded 2nd baseman Kody Eaves in exchange for Marte who was on the Tigers before hand.
While Marte is not a spectacular player, he has provided decent depth for the Angels not only at 3rd base, but other infield and outfield positions as well. In 38 games started this season, Marte has an OPS of .672 which is not half bad for a role player.
His defense is also another reason why he is a solid depth player for the Angels. For Marte, his fielding percentage this season is .967 and he has only committed one error this season in 38 games started.
But, Marte is not always the most consistent player which is why he hasn’t found a starting spot on the roster yet. In his last 7 games for the Angels, he has only gotten two hits and has a batting average of .118 which is not an ideal number for a starting caliber player.
Grade: C Marte has seen his ups and downs this season and grades out as an average player because that’s how he has performed this year. Marte has had his good games which has lead him to start more games, but he has been recently declining right before the All-Star break. With CJ Cron being out for a significant time, Marte does have some experience at first base. This will allow him to see more playing time and possibly develop his skills further.
