Gregorio Petit – You may see Petit on other parts of this report card series as he is so versatile playing second base, third base, and shortstop.  Petit has performed well wherever the Angels have played him at.  He is a shortstop for the most part, but he has used those skills to play well at third too.

Petit only played seven games at third this season, starting three, but he was stellar defensively not making an error in 13 total chances.  He has been one of the few bright spots for the Angels this season batting .275 with two homers and 14 runs batted in.  His play at shortstop and third lessened the blow of losing Andrelton Simmons for five weeks and also playing well for a few games when Escobar has been hurt.

Next: Angels have hooked themselves a big fish in center?

Grade: B+ –  The Angels could not have asked for anything more out of Petit as he has been almost as good as Simmons defensively and has also provided a consistent bat in the lower part of the line-up.  Petit will continue to be important because of his versatility throughout the rest of the season, especially with utility man Cliff Pennington on the shelf with a strained hamstring.  Also if Escobar does in fact get traded you will probably see Petit more at third base after that.
