#9 – October 28, 1996 = DH Chili Davis to the Kansas City Royals for Pitcher Mark Gubicza and minor leaguer Mike Bovee.

The California Angels thought they needed another pitcher for their rotation, but a 34-year old aging veteran like Mark Gubicza was not what the Angels thought they were getting.  Gubicza pitched in only two games and a total of 4.2 innings giving up 13 hits and 13 earned runs with a 25.07 ERA.  Gubicza would not pitch again after that short stint.  Chili Davis would play well hitting 52 home runs 177 RBI’s in two more seasons plus 35 games in a third season.

It doesn’t look like the Angels got the best of this deal and Mike Bovee the minor leaguer the Angels also received never did much either.  Bovee pitched in three games for Anaheim with 3.1 innings pitched with a 5.40 ERA.  Gubicza ironically is now the Angels color commentator on their television broadcast team for FOX Sports West.
