LA Angels: Alex Meyer Gets Another Start At Angel Stadium
Tonight LA Angels pitcher Alex Meyer will get his final start in hopes of continuing to improve before the season ends.
The LA Angels have been playing well as of late. If only they could play the Oakland A’s every game. However, we all know the situation and the state of the Angels this season. The injuries and inconsistent play have disrupted all the postseason hopes the Angels had for 2016.
However, if you take the last 15 games into account the Angels look like they could challenge for a playoff spot next season. The Angels will have Garrett Richards back as he expects to pitch in the instructional league on October 3rd.
The young guns like Alex Meyer will have a couple meaningful starts under their belt. Ricky Nolasco is starting to pitch well in his new home. The pieces fit and they are coming together.
Tonight; however, Meyer will get one more start for 2016. Meyer has taken some time to adjust to his new role on the Angels. However, lately, he’s pitching better than his numbers would indicate.

Currently, Meyer is 1-3 with an ERA of 5.91. Those are numbers we expected when the trade was announced. He has the offseason to work on his throwing and perhaps compete for a starting position next season.
As of now, I do not see Meyer as a starter next season. He might be more efficient in a closer role or a set-up man. The Angels need to find a reliable close after the massive struggles of Huston Street this season. It’s unclear of Mike Scioscia will adjust the rotation next season. However, he’ll likely have a lot to work with next season.
Next: Skaggs may get one more start this season
The pitching overall will be the most highlighted of issues going into winter meetings. With so many players on the DL, the Angels may have to do some wheeling and dealing before spring training 2017.
