LA Angels Torii Hunter Jr. Has been promoted to Inland Empire.

Although he is not having a spectacular season the LA Angels have promoted Torii Hunter Jr., yes the son of Torii Hunter, to Single-A Inland Empire.  Hunter has talent, but will it be enough to get him to Anaheim.

When the LA Angels drafted Torii Hunter Jr. In the 23rd round of the 2016 Amateur draft, they did not know if he would sign or how soon he would be in an Angel uniform.  However, after a September concussion Hunter Jr. Suffered while playing wide receiver for Notre Dame University, Hunter Jr. made a very wise decision giving up football and join the Angels minor league system.

In 2017 Hunter Jr. Reported to the Orem Owls, the Angels rookie ball team and put up some pretty good numbers hitting .352 with a .432 OBP in 213 plate appearances.  While he only hit one home run he drove in 28 runs and stole 13 bases. This allowed Hunter Jr. To get an invite to 2018 Spring Training.  Although he didn’t see much action in the Spring he did get to pinch-run for Mike Trout who came up to the Angels when Hunter Jr’s father played for the Angels.

Hunter Jr. Had some moderate success in Low Single-A Burlington this season.  His numbers weren’t spectacular, but they were enough to get him promoted to High-Single-A Inland Empire.  While at Burlington Hunter hit a modest .259 with two homers and 27 RBI’s with 24 stolen bases and a .338 OBP.  So far in one game Hunter Jr. went 3 for 5 with a run scored.

Will we ever see Torii Hunter Jr. roaming the Angel outfield possibly playing next to Mike Trout just like his father did?  Maybe, Hunter Jr can even be good enough that Mike Trout shifts to left or right field like Torii Hunter Sr. did upon Trout’s arrival. For now Hunter Jr will just enjoy his new scenery and hopefully will find success and keep on moving closer to reaching the majors.

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing Hunter Jr. play  for the 66’ers as I saw his father play in Single-A for the Fort Myers Miracle 22years ago and it will be interesting to see how the younger Hunter stacks up to his papa.  To be continued…
