Trade #2: Mookie and Mike, Mike and Mookie

I just committed sin to most Angels fans, as Jo Adell is the crowned jewel of this franchise behind Trout and Ohtani. Trading him is considered so far off the table that it was literally off the table at the trade deadline this year. Eppler has shown absolutely zero signs of ever trading the organization’s top prospect.

However, if he had the opportunity of trading for Mookie Betts, Eppler would have to, at the very least, think about pulling the trigger. And honestly, why not make this trade?

Yes, Jo Adell would give this team six years of club control. Cheap club control. However, as it is with every prospect, we have absolutely 0% guarantee that Adell will reach his potential in the big leagues. Obviously we all want to see that, he has an All Star ceiling, but he’s still a question mark like every other prospect.

Meanwhile, and I’ll keep this short, Betts is the second best player in baseball, a former MVP, and the Angels can still afford to add elite pitching (Gerrit Cole) this offseason while extending Betts next year.

His fit with this team’s timeline is too perfect to pass up, and Billy Eppler needs to think about this move as much as any other this offseason.
