The LA Angels have many free agent options to think about signing this offseason, and they really need to get this right.

The Halos have a lot of money to spend this offseason, and can’t be putting it in the wrong places. They have clear needs on their roster, and need to attack those so we can finally get our team to the next level.

There are a few notable free agents that belong nowhere near this roster. A couple of them have player options, and may want to opt out and test free agency. We should focus our attention elsewhere, and not worry about any of these three guys.

No. 3 free agent the LA Angels should definitely pass on: Charlie Blackmon

Charlie Blackmon may as well opt out of his contract and test free agency. The LA Angels, however, shouldn’t bother.

They’re likely going to bring up Brandon Marsh and Jo Adell, and they’re going to have Mike Trout and Justin Upton back from injury next year.

That’s a great crew of outfielders already, and all four have the potential to be better than Blackmon. This is especially true considering that Blackmon had arguably the worst year of his career this past season.

Blackmon has a good resume in this league, and would most likely cost over $20 million per year. The Angels need to just stick with what they have.

No. 2 free agent the LA Angels should definitely pass on: Kris Bryant

Kris Bryant is an outstanding player, but he’s just not for the LA Angels.

He doesn’t fit the positions that we need. Even with him proving to be very versatile and actually playing more outfield this year than third base, he still doesn’t fill one of the top needs on our team.

As previously mentioned, this team is loaded up as far as the outfield goes next season. Also, we’re already paying Anthony Rendon $36 million for next year, proving that we can’t throw the money at Bryant to play third base as well.

He outplayed Rendon by a lot this season when Rendon was healthy, however we already invested in Rendon and there’s no turning back now.

Bryant made $19.5 million this year, and may ask for that price to be driven up as he enters free agency. It’s just not meant to be with this club. We’ve already spent a lot of money at the positions he plays.

No. 1 free agent the LA Angels should definitely pass on: Trevor Bauer

Trevor Bauer is currently under investigation for sexual assault, and the LA Angels do not want this problem on their hands. We just dealt with having to terminate Mickey Callaway for sexual misconduct. The last thing we need to do is sign another disturbed person to our team.

What if we sign Bauer, and then he gets proven guilty and ends up in prison? Well, there goes a massive blow to our money situation. Bauer is going to cost a lot this offseason.

He made over $35 million this season, and while his recent sexual assault investigation will likely drive his price down, he would still want a decent-sized contract. Just last season he was a Cy Young winner.

We don’t even know if he’ll opt out of his deal, but it’s always possible. It’s not worth the risk, and also, what would it say about the Angels to sign Bauer after recent events?

That would show that Arte Moreno and Perry Minasian don’t have a ton of issues with what he did, which shouldn’t be the case. If it turns out he definitely didn’t do it, that’s one thing. However, if we don’t get that closure, it wouldn’t be right to sign him.

We have so many options for great players we can sign this offseason. Let’s make sure we make the right ones.
