Franklin Barreto (Shortstop): Leaves Anaheim

Franklin Barreto was arbitration eligible this year, and opted for free agency.

Don’t expect him back for next season. The Angels have a need at shortstop, but Barreto isn’t the guy. He’s quietly been in the league for a while now, and has never gotten the job done.

He’s hit .175/.207/.342 (.549 OPS) with 9 HR, 29 RBI, and 31 RBI in 101 Big League games. That production just isn’t anywhere close to enough. Especially when there are many studs on the free agent market at the shortstop position.

Carlos Correa, Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Trevor Story, and Javier Baez headline this loaded free agent class at shortstop.

Junior Guerra (Relief Pitcher): Leaves Anaheim

There’s not very many good things to say about Junior Guerra these days. Guerra had a truly awful year for the Halos after he had two solid ones back-to-back in 2019 and 2020.

Guerra has been pretty bad with both of the AL teams he’s been a part of. The Angels know better than to take another chance on him. Guerra was statistically one of the worst pitchers in the Angels pen this year, and that’s unfortunately saying quite a bit.
