The Los Angeles Angels are watching pitchers showcase their talents during camp. Right now, one pitcher is progressing after having TJ surgery.

The Los Angeles Angels are gearing up for their first spring training game against the Milwaukee Brewers. As they approach this season, there are multiple pitching battles happening in camp. Alex Meyer and Bud Norris have been impressive thus far, Huston Street is also looking to establish his position as the closer.

The Angels are fairly stacked at the pitching position. After the events of last season, general manager Billy Eppler added more depth on the mound. However, where does that leave Andrew Heaney? Heaney, like Garrett Richards, opted for stem-cell treatment instead of TJ surgery, however, it was unsuccessful. Now, the Oklahoma City native is looking to get back to the mound as soon as possible.

As reported by Pedro Moura of the LA Times, Heaney won’t rule out pitching this season. In fact, he’s eyeing a comeback in september when the rosters are able to expand. Heaney was quoted as saying “I’d like to let other people talk about it,” he said. “I have a goal in mind, but it’s my goal, nobody else’s.

However, despite Heaney’s comments, Mike Scioscia isn’t sure Heaney will be able to pitch this season. Sosh said “it would be a medical decision, not made by the club or the pitcher.”

Should Heaney attempt to make the comeback this season? Absolutely, any player that’s injuried would do the same thing. Just think, if the stem-cell therapy would have worked for him, he’d be out there now with Richards. I for one, think if Heaney makes it back in time for the post season, it makes the Angels more formiddible.

As far as this season goes, the Angels enough pitching to keep them in contention within the division. With Richards leading the charge, the Angels should be able to solifiy themselves as one of the best teams in the AL West.
