The Los Angeles Angels are continuing their spring training exhibition games. Today, they’ll see the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs in Tempe Arizona.

The Los Angeles Angels are looking good so far during spring training. With a 3-0 record, they’ll look to extend their winning ways. The Angels will be facing the World Champion Chicago Cubs today. While this is an exhibition game, this is still a good test for this Angels team.

Last season, the Angels faced the Cubs on Opening Night and the Cubs dominated the Angels. In two games the Cubs outscored the Angels 15-to-1. The Angels would certainly like to get a little revenge for being manhandled by the Cubs last season.

The Angels will give pitcher Manny Banuelos the start against the Cubs. Banuelos last pitched in the majors in 2015 for the Atlanta Braves. In 26 innings he pitched a 5.13 ERA with a record of 1-4. Last season, Banuelos pitched in the minors for 3 separate teams. He finished 2016 with an ERA of 5.33.

The Cubs are starting Alec Mills against the Angels today. Last season Mills pitched for the Kansas City Royals. In 3 games, Mills compiled an ERA of 13.50, in just three innings of baseball. However, in the minors for Northwest Arkansas, Mills pitched a cool 2.39 ERA in 67 innings.

While this is an exhibition game, and the score doesn’t matter, this will still be a fun game. Expect to hear things like “This could be a World Series matchup one day.” And rightfully so, the Cubs are definitely World Series bound. The Angels, however, have a chance to make some strides to the World Series. I am not 100% sure they are there yet.

Still, the Angels with Mike Trout are always a formidable opponent. The Cubs lost a couple key pitchers in Travis Wood and Jason Hammel to the Royals, however, the Cubs are still one of the most likely teams from the NL to make it to the World Series.

Next: Spring training matters for the Angels

In order for the Angels to make the trip to the World Series, their pitching must be elite. So far, the Angels look decent. Yusmeiro Petit and Keynan Middleton have shined thus far. The Angels have yet to bring out Alex Meyer for spring training action. Once the starting pitchers get some spring training action, we’ll get a better idea of how for real the Angels are.
