LAASpring is in full effect, The Angels are 7-2 and are currently prepping for the return of their second best hitter.
The Angels are using the hashtag LAASpring to generate Twitter buzz surrounding spring training. While the Angels are having a somewhat successful spring thus far, there’s one more reason for cheers.

Today, Pedro Moura of the LA Times tweeted that Mike Scioscia stated that Albert Pujols will run bases today and is expected to make his spring debut this week. This is awesome news, as Pujols appears to be one step closer to being ready for Opening Day on April 3rd.
It’s also good news as Luis Valbuena has missed three games with leg tightness. This, of course, is the same leg that bothered him last season, resulting in season-ending surgery.
Still, The Machine being operational is a big plus for the Angels. Pujols is chasing his 600th home run and 3,000 career hits. He could very well achieve both of those tasks this season if health permits.

Pujols underwent surgery to repair his right foot at last season’s end. He was impressive last season with 31 homers and 119 RBI’s. He also cracked the top 10 on the all-time home runs record last season as well.
Assuming his rehabbing continues as planned, Pujols will be the Angels DH choice for the season. The first base position being a toss up between Valbuena and C.J. Cron.

Pujols has been hitting and fielding during camp with little to no resistance from the surgery. Keep your fingers crossed that he’ll make it through base running today, pain-free, so he can make his spring debut this week.

As of now, it is unclear if Valbuena will play today versus the Chicago Cubs. Hopefully, there isn’t a larger issue other than just leg tightness for Valbuena.
