Injuries continue to mount for LA Angels but team keeps rolling on.

Just when it seemed like the LA Angels were getting things going the good ol’ injury bug jumped up and bit not one but two Angels players in Friday’s 6-3 victory over the Texas Rangers. Tyler Skaggs & C.J. Cron both left the game early.

The LA Angels have had a very streaky month of April.  They started out winning six of their first eight games, three in dramatic fashion. During that period the Angels lost starter Garrett Richards and set-up man Andrew Bailey to injuries.

Then the Angels went cold losing six in a row and 10 of 11 games and it seemed the team was going nowhere fast as both the hitting and pitching looked suspect.  Since then the Angels have got hot again winning six of their last seven games including winning their last five in a row.

The team now sits at 13-12 and have a chance for their first winning month of April since 2011 and only the second time since 2009.  However, the injuries continue to mount as the Angels lost Cam Bedrosian last week to a strained groin and then last night both Tyler Skaggs and C.J. Cron left the game prematurely as Skaggs left the game after five innings due to a pain in his side and he has been placed on the10-day DL with a left oblique strain.

Cron on the other hand is unfortunately no stranger to the DL as he missed six weeks last season with a broken hand. This time Cron fouled a ball off his foot and while the Angels do not think its broken, Cron was seen after last night’s game in a walking boot and was place on the DL with a foot contusion.

Both injuries come at a time when the Angels can ill-afford to have any more players out with the pitching staff very thin due to other injuries.  One bit of good news is that first baseman Luis Valbuena is on the mend as he started a rehab assignment for the Inland Empire 66’ers Monday and has done pretty well going 5 for 15 with five RBI’s. So he may be able to replace Cron at first base.

Daniel Wright was called up to replace Skaggs on the roster and the Angels also called up Jose Valdez to provide some bullpen depth.  Valdez may only be up for a short time as the Angels will most likely call up a position player possibly Valbuena to give the Angels another position player until Cron is healthy again.

Next: Angels showing resillience

With all this going on, the Angels keep scrapping.  If the Angels can get healthy this team has a chance to do something special. For now that’s a big IF.
