The Los Angeles Angels looked to fill the black hole that has been left field for the team in recent years. Cameron Maybin was aqcuired from the Detroit Tigers to help fill that void in 2017.
When the Los Angeles Angels acquired Maybin, there was a reserved anticipation. Would this just be another attempt to patch and platoon? Could Maybin, who had good stats last year replicate it? More so, could he stay healthy and play 120 or more games?

In the first third of the 2017 season Maybin has managed to stay healthy. However, his offensive production has left something to be desired more much of the first 40 games. Through his first 32 games, the left fielder had just three multi-hit games. That went along with too many 0-for nights at the plate.
Since moving to the leadoff spot ten games ago, Maybin has gotten 17 of his 37 hits. Maybin has five multi-hit games in that time as well. That includes a five-hit game and two of his three home runs this season.
Maybin his hitting leadoff out of neccesity. Los Angeles Angels leadoff-by-default Yunel Escobar landed on the disabled list, prompting Maybin’s move up. However, having responded well Maybin may earn himself an extended chance at the top of a line up still trying to find itself offensively.
While Maybin has raised his average over 50 points, to now sit at .247, he will need to continue to hit and get on base if he wishes to remain in the lead off spot.
Overall Grade: C+. Maybin has shown rapid improvement and his .369 OBP is not to be ignored. However, he will need to show that he can sustain his positive performance for a longer period of time.
