The LA Angels minor league always seems to take a lot of flack for being so weak, however they recently had three players get named to the California League All-Star game roster. Jose Rojas, Jaime Barria, and Jose Rodriguez.

The LA Angels Single-A affiliate the Inland Empire 66’ers had three players who were named to the California League All-Star team due to their strong performance so far in the 2017 season.

The first player is prospect Jose Rojas.  Rojas is a third baseman who in 55 games is hitting .295 with four homer runs and 26 runs batted in and he has stolen four bases.  Rojas started his minor league career in 2016 for the Angels rookie league affiliate the Orem Owls hitting .308 with five home runs and driving in 31 runs batted in stealing nine bases.

Rojas was drafted by the Angels out of Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California in 2016.  Rojas is a local product hailing from Anaheim where he attended Anaheim High School.  He was named to the first team all-conference at Vanguard making the GSAC team. Rojas also won a NAIA Rawlings Gold Glove for his play at third base.

The second 66’ers player to be chosen to the California League All-Star team was right-handed pitcher Jose Rodriguez.  Rodriguez is a pitching prospect who has been in the minors since 2013 when he was drafted out of Bolivar, Venezuela and started out in the Angels Rookie League.

In 2017 for the 66’ers Rodriguez has pitched in 13 games going 6-5 with a 4.56 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 71 innings while only walking 18 batters. The special thing about Rodriguez is that he is still very young as he is only 21 years old.  We will have to wait and see how Rodriguez progresses.
