Can Jefry Marte play his way onto the LA Angels roster?
Jefry Marte has been a part of the LA Angels over most of the last two seasons. In 2016 Marte burst on the scene hitting 15 homers and driving in 44 runs with a .249 batting average in 258 at-bats.
Marte was thought to be a potential part-time starter in left field for the LA Angels in 2017, but he struggled mightily. Marte hit four homers and drove in 14 runs with .173 batting average and was subsequently sent down to the minors. Marte did okay in Triple-A hitting nine homers and 39 RBI’s batting .265, but his window of opportunity seemed to be closing.

This spring Marte is in training camp fighting for his professional life. With Zack Cozart now with the starting third base job and Albert Pujols and Luis Valbuena holding down first base there is not much room for a corner infielder who can play a little bit of left field, too.
Marte though, is trying to play his way on the roster. Marte is hitting .615 so far in Spring Training going 8 for 13 with three doubles, and a stolen base. Even if Marte has a good Spring he may not make the Opening Day. However, that is not going to stop Marte from giv
ing it his all this Spring in hopes of sneaking out a roster spot.
Marte has tremendous power and is an above average defender at both first and third base. It is like so many position battles every spring where a player gets hot, but can’t crack the roster due to another player standing in their way.

If Marte does not make the team he may ask for his team to release in order to pursue free agency. Hopefully, Marte will figure it out and win a spot on the Opening Day roster. Good Luck Jefry Marte hope to see you in Anaheim.
